Can you catch Lakers after sunset through the ice or is it a waste of time trying?

In my experience, we have often had a flurry of fish right as it was getting dark, but never caught fish after it was completely dark out. In fairness, I don't know if they still bite after dark, as we usually stop fishing at sunset. Hopefully someone with more experience will comment.

It is very very rare to catch a laker a hour after dark ice fishing. It happens. Probably caught two for maybe a hundred plus hours trying.

I always catch the lakers at night, they play on the left coast and it is always dark on the right coast when they play. Oh, ur talking fish, never mind.

I guess it would be a waste of time to try. I will have to spend the after ours just relaxing which should be a good time anyway.

Eelpout bite good after dark in the winter so I pull my lines. If you like those stinkers just find a nice big flat that is approx 20 ft deep and fish with chub minnow near the bottom.

I caught an 8 pd laker in May this year at night on a bobber and leech. I was shaking with excitement and thought I had a 12 pd walleye on.
