For having comfort both around the campfire and in the canoe, I find that the folding canoe seat works great for both. Gander mountain makes a pretty cheap one ($15) that can be strapped on to the canoe seat for good back support and can also be detached and used around the camp. A friend of mine just introduced them to me and I have found that they work great.

I always bring in a crazy creek chair which I use both in the canoe and in camp. You can check out their selection at www.crazycreek.com. It looks like they have a new line for the canoe specifically. I should have stopped in their outlet when in Red Lodge last month.
They sell them at most outdoor stores so I am just passing on the web site for reference.

I have a friend who showed me the thermarest sling that converts a thrermarest mattress into a chair. Very thick and comfortable. You are bringing in the mattress anyway so this adds very little weight and gives you a great chair. I am going to buy one someday soon.

We have a couple of the crazy creek canoe chairs. They are great in the canoe & great at camp. They fold down for portaging as well. We also bought one of the crazy creek tarps for camp. It is very lightweight. A great selection of chairs & tarps to choose from on their website. We got our chairs at REI & ordered the tarp online.
Good Luck.

We have something like bog is talking about which goes over the thermarest and makes it into a chair. This makes for a more comfortable chair, and the same cover also provides a less slippery surface for the sleeping bag at night. And there are plastic poles of some sort on the sides of this which further help keep you on the thermarest at night. It isn't something I have ever used in the canoe though.
