I have found myself far from the BWCA these days but noticed some water routes are available in Adirondack Park. Has anyone been up and if so can you suggest a trip to quench my homesickness?

This is from memory...since I haven't been there for many years...

I used to work at a wilderness camp in the Adirondacks and we took many canue trips. I remember starting at Long Lake heading north to the Racquette River and then into the Saranac Lakes (lower, middle and upper). It was a great trip and took 3-4 days.

As I said, this is from memory. It is been at least 10 years. So, I may have missed something.

The canoeing was wonderful. For the most part, you won't see anyone and will see a lot of wildlife. The Adirondacks offer some great opportunities to get into the woods.

This past winter I read: An Adirondack Passage: The Cruse of the canoe Sairy Gamp Christine Jerome (Harper Collins: New York 1994) 230pp. It was a fun book and had some pretty good information about the park. It isn't quite wilderness in my thinking but if I were in upstate New York....
