I'm in the process of planning a 3-4 day trip in late December, for a party of 6. This would be our first time winter camping in the Boundary Waters Area. I can't wait. Anyway's, I wondered if anyone might have a few tips or advice they might want to share. Our desire is set up camp only once if possible, and then a few of the guys will spend most of their time ice fishing, while myself and some others look forward to engaging in some serious camp craft and building a quinzee. Here's a fantastic website with great people and idea's. wintercampers

WOW! I went to the "wintercampers" link, interesting site. I saw that they have a new gang sign for winter camping. All I saw was a turkey! Strange - then I read it and it was a "W" for winter and a "C" for camping! I'm not saying you have to be a turkey to winter camp but other have thought that of us.

We went on a 5 day BW dogsledding trip with Wintergreen Dogsledding out of Ely. We did not use a tent to sleep at night but did have a warm tent to eat dinner and breakfast in. I would do the same again. The last morning it was -16 and I was really warm while I slept. It was a great trip and we turned around and did the same route during the summer.

All I can say is drink lots of liquids. One tends to not drink as much when you have to dig a hole to get water!

- have a great time - wish we were there!

My favorite winter site is wintertrekking.com. It has alot of in depth info and the guy that runs it is in Ontario, close to home.
