Nice Site
I have spent quite a bit of time on the net looking for good info on the BWCA and Voyageur. Not a lot of good info out there, just people trying to sell something. I was thinking about how nice it would be to have a good message board and bang! I clicked on one. I spent a week about 12 years ago in the BWCA and last summer a week in voyageur. I plan to spend a lot more time in both. I like using my small motor boat in the Voyageur but hope they never open the BWCA to motors.

I currently live along the Mississippi River. I dream of what it must have been like before all of the locks and dams, powerplants and other developments. I will never be able to experience it. The BWCA is one area that is accessable but not yet destroyed. I hope that we can keep it that way.

I am planning a winter trip with some friends. Camp, fish and ski in the BWCA. I will probabally be looking for some advice on this site.

It appears that there are not a lot of users here yet. I also noticed that neither Silent Sports or BWCA Magazine have message boards on their sites. Perhaps whoever it is that is running this site might consider trading a little advertising in the way of an article or something for a banner on this site. Just a thought.

I have this bookmarked on my daily check list, hope some of you do as well.

Lets all try to keep the snowmobiles and 4-wheelers away!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but they already allow motorboats into the bwca as far in as basswood lake and up to 25horse they can only use half of basswood with motors but its bet to go past the gageing station to get away from the noise.
but i agree they should ban all motorboats all together and keep the solitude of the bwca they way it is and the way it always was "PEACEFUL"!!

The motorboaters don't bother me. I only see or hear them for the first hour or two of my trips, that start at Moose Lake or Praire Portage.
I allways give them a friendly wave and try to let them know I respect them the same as the canoeists.
I think, I would be silly to step from my CAR or TRUCK and expect to find instant solitude. A little work brings me that.

Good comment Stumpy!

We once heard of someone who was upset because they were up on the Moose Lake chain and saw and heard motors.

When they were asked why they didn't move further into the canoe only zone, they said they didn't want to do many portages.

Isn't that sort of like driving around during rush hour and complaining about all the traffic? :-)

If you want to get 'away' from it all you have to put some effort into it and do some work. It IS worth it!

We deal mostly with canoes but have a few motor boats too. So I get to talk to people from both sides and can see both sides of opinions.
