Hello, i want to take a good 2 week trip into the quetico but i dont know many resources that will help me plan a decent route. Does anybody here know of good books or websites that will assist me in this? I would like to make a minnesota entry, so that limits things a little.

thanks

Hey! Newbie! Welcome...
2 Weeks! You can go almost anywhere in 2 weeks.
Paddler's Guide to Quetico Provincial Park - Robert Beymer is the main source for routes in Quetico, but many of the routes can be joined or anltered. We took an 11 day trip last summer that ended at Prairie Portage, but you could check it out just for ideas....my trip report is on this site at

http://www.bwca.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=trip.report_view&sel_trp_id=361

Also a good site is http://www.quietjourney.com/site_map.html

And for campsite go to http://w3.cs.jmu.edu/arch/hobbies/camp/maps/quet-pcd/code/index.php

Good luck! Have fun! Let me know if you need any other information.

I agree with fishguts - the Beymer book on Quetico is the best I've discovered. Prairie Portage offers some great loops.

What are you seeking on your trip?

FG-

Are you kidding me!!! That campsite index has to be one of the coolest things I have ever come across. I wish I had known of this a while ago.

Now if I just make out as well as you do with the fishing,

Thanks
Alex

Beymer's books are indeed good. I have them. However, I find them a little cumbersome to use with the separate map in the back. I reach for my copy of "Exploring the Boundary Waters " by Daniel Pauly much more often. I'd choose it over Beymer's if I could have only one.

HOWEVER, the one I use most often is an oldie called "Paddler's Guide to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area", by Michael E. Duncanson. It is a thin book, with color maps and just a few routes described. I think it a very good overview. Easy to handle and hold open while laying in bed -- a good bedside guidebook. I think it is available only through the Fisher Map company.

Duh! Never mind. This is for Quetico and I posted BW stuff. I'm an idiot, but I'll leave it in case anyone finds it useful.

Sorry.
