Thanks for the report Dean-glad to see everyone had a great time. When are you going back??? I bet everyone wishes it could be next week!! Moose River-LLC was my first trip and is still one of my all time favorites.

Nice report, I will be there in 17 days in the same general area... for the second year in a row!

I will be back next year. Probably to the same area. My two older boys will be graduating. I hope they will join me. The younger found that it was a lot of work and will probably opt for going to Cedar Point or somewhere...

Have a great time. I envy you. Lac La Croix has really gotten into my blood. To me, it was the most beautiful place of the trip. I really liked the Bottle River (?) area also.

If Iron Lake is like that I'm sure it is an incredible place too.

Dean-you will love Iron Lake with its islands and the route it takes for you to get to Curtain Falls and Rebecca Falls.

The south end of Iron has Peterson Bay which has always been good for fishing for me.

Once you see Curtain Falls it will solidify the area as one of the most beautiful. Of course you still need to get west into Pocket, Gebeonequet, Rocky, Green and Oyster and points further west. Yep, it looks like you may have to make an annual trek for a few years to come.

Dang-so many lakes so little time!!

Next year will be another family trip and my wife and at least two of the kids will be coming back with me... we may do the Oyster loop in a relaxing way next year... but this year it is just me and fishing... and as Bog says... So many lakes, so little time!!

LLC got me hooked on the BWCA. I am pretty sure that I have stayed on the otherside of the island that you were talking about. It had a nice rock face on it if I remember and a great beach.

The first time that I went up to LLC from EP 16, was at night. A college friend and I got to the EP at about 10:00pm and made it to Tiger Bay just before 11:00am with the help of a full moon. It was a trip that I will always remember and one that I will never again emulate. One learns as they go/grow...hopefully.

Sounds like you had a great time. My group has done the Moose River north route every year since 1991. LLC is an awaesome lake. You didn't mention anything about walleyes. Did you guys catch any? We usually do very well on walleyes this time of year.We also have camped at the same campsite you mention many times. About 5 years ago someone wrecked it and we haven't been back since. The firegrate was busted up and fire pit torn apart. He seating was ripped apart to. Glad to hear it's back in order. Agnes is also a great walleye lake. We've spent alot of time on Agnes to.

Man, that's too bad someone had to tear the site up. It's definitely all put together now and in very good order. The logs are somewhat comfortable and have been "flattened" in areas to make a nicer seat. There was a grill grate that had been left there from before. I left it also. I actually used it two of the meals for 'burgs and steaks. Thought someone else might appreciate it?

We didn't fish for walleye at all. I'm sure we could've found some in the river mouth and on a few of the dropoffs though. We just had a blast catching those fightin' smallies and "mean as heck" pike!

Didn't spend any time at all on Agnes at all 'cept for eating lunch to and fro.

I cannot wait to go back.

You went in at night!?!?! Man, I couldn't do that! Must've been an exciting trip in though. Would really make you watch for those portages.

Last year we went across Nina-Moose Lake in the early morning and it was worse than night. It was so foggy you couldn't see 30 feet. Luckily we've been through there so many times we knew if we kept the canoe straight we'd be OK. Got across it perfect, right on the beach where we stopped for a snack by the roots of that old tipped over pine that refuses to die. That tree went down during a trip we took in 1993. It was standing on our way in and down on our way out.

Thanks for the great trip report! I've had the opportunity to visit that area many times over the years. Wonderful scenery, lots of wildlife, and great fishing! Reading your report brought back many good memories.

There used to be two towering dead trees near the mouth of the Moose River on the south end of Nina Moose. We would use them to navigate to the river on our way back out. Several years back, one of them toppled, leaving just one. It was still there as of June 05. Did you happen to notice if it was still standing?

If we're talking about the same trees then, yes, it's still there. I made note of the tree to navigate to on our way out.

I agree with you in that it is a very beautiful area. Now all I have to do is start planning for the next trip. I might take Arkansasman and Bogwalker's advice and head to Iron...or maybe points West from where we were.
