They don't like to draw attention to themselves, but 2 of our own, Kendra and BeaV, are now officially Guinness World Record holders! They were part of a team who paddled a dragon boat last summer on the Missouri River and covered the greatest distance ever in 24 hours for that type of boat. Congratulations!

Wow!

The thing I disliked about paddling dragon boats was not changing sides. In a 24 hour effort, did you swap sides?

Is that paddling upstream, I assume?

Thanks everyone! A Dragon Boat was a new experience for Kendra and I, for that matter, it was for 14 of our 17-person team. We had to learn quick.

andym- we switched sides roughly every 20 minutes. Worse than paddling on one side for so long was the wood bench seats. Sitting on a 2 x 6 was bad, for some it was excruciatingly bad. We had additional goals to set after the 24-hour record. We made it 37 hours and pulled off the river due to the race officials ending the race due to perceived dangerous conditions.

Here's a pic of our team.

Hang around with BeaV and Kendra from time to time---
Didn't know nothing about this.
Ego is not their thing. They just love doing what they do.
They deserve all the recognition as they are both elite on the water and off the water as human beings. Congrats!!!!

Thanks WW. For that nice comment, you're entitled to an extra scoop of oatmeal or an extra 15 minutes of sleep, your choice, on our next trip together.

Have you ever heard of the ring of fire jet stream pattern as described in the Missouri River 340 writeup below? If so, what is this dang thing that wrecked our fun.

"2023 will be remembered as one of the toughest Missouri American Water MR340s ever. To date, 2023 was the first race to be ended mid-race. Just a few days before the race, forecasts were predicting three-digit temps throughout the race. That forecast quickly changed to high winds with nightly storms as a "ring of fire" jet stream pattern set up over Missouri."

Thanks everyone!!!

If I would have posted before BeaV, I would have said the same thing about the seats!!! A dragon boat seat is not made for long distance paddling!!! The funny thing is, BeaV and I actually practiced sitting on a 2x6 board with different cushions to ensure comfort!!! LOL!

WW - We hang around some pretty great people from this site, yourself included!!!
Now as for straighthairedcurly, we may need to rethink our friendship now that you've drawn attention to us. HaHa! JK Kris, we appreciate you supporting us! Thanks.

Thanks for the info on how you paddled. I don't think I've ever been in a dragon boat for more than an hour or so nonstop and so didn't hit the sore butt issue. Changing sides every 20 minutes sounds like a decent balance.

Congrats on the world record.

Congratulations Kendra and beav… back in the day 2x6’s were either
Boat or outhouse seats.
When I was hauling boats I liked those cause you could just tie a rope to em and start draggin. Haha. Nope, longest boats I hauled were 40’ and they were rowing shells.
Anyways, on and off the water team Kendra and beav including whitewolf and gang are for sure great folks.

Congrats Kendra and Beav, such an impressive effort! 37 hours and stopped on account of bad weather? Single blade beast mode. Respect!!
