I may a have a couple of newbies with me this year. There are a lot of canoe videos on YouTube. They vary in production quality and content.

Do you recommend any video for newbies? I’d like something that gives a new person the general idea of happens out there in terms risk, equipment and fun.

I’ll send them the required Forest Service videos, but those are pretty dry for a good introduction.

Share trip reports and videos from the members here.
Nothing better than seeing it in real life and not “staged” for movies.

I’ve always enjoyed Path of the Paddle.

OC Dave's video almost made me spit soda all over my computer!

Mocha is right...the trip reports are excellent resources. You can find reports on the area you'd like to go to which can be very helpful.

Here are a few videos I've shared with folks coming with me on their first trips:

1. Friends of the Boundary Waters. This group has several videos and some of them are better than others but overall some good ideas.

2. Technically Rugged on Youtube has several videos. He's also a member on this site. I prefer his trip reports like this one over the times he talks about advice but that is simply because I enjoy the footage and seeing how it is done. He does give solid advice.

3. You never know when you'll meet a Shug in the BWCA so you'll want to know when all is clear in sector 7! Also a member on this site.

There are others I like. Simply sharing a few. Enjoy planning and have a great trip!

This How-To series from Friends of the Boundary Waters has some good basics. The one on ways to portage a canoe is one of the best I've seen because it isn't just some buff dude muscling up a canoe with zero technique.

"Two packs and a pup". Young couple and their dog Emma canoe camping in Onterio. They only do a few videos a year so are not driven to find content every week. Show all aspects of canoe camping and video quality is very good. The full time youtubers like Lost Lakes and Xander are fun but I think Two Packs and a pup paint a more realistic picture (and set a better example via LNT and things like wearing a PFD) then most of the others. My 2 cents.

How have I not seen this before? So good.

Re: the thread so far
I thought I might have a few suggestions when I read the op but, instead, I now have at least half a dozen channels to check out. So glad this community exists!

A lot of god ones have been named, Tom, but things to consider - a lot are in non-bwca places where rules/regs may be different. Another thing I'd consider is do they depict a trip and style like I'd be taking them on.

You might consider Schultz Outdoors on You Tube - 3-day canoe trip with my dog has a lot of different things that might be encountered.
