Woke up this morning fascinated with the thought of dead end routes, specifically with campsites. Started surfing the map section. Anyone have any they've been to or camped at?

I have a spreadsheet with all the dead end lakes. Will email to you.

Speckled,

Cool idea, I have always enjoyed dead ends. Here are a few with a campsite/not in a PMA. My definition of dead end is there's only in/out; you've gotta come out the way you went in:
Spice
Ottos
Kelsey
Bologna
Trillium
Trygg

A few of these like Trillium and Trygg may not have a very easy to use camp if they haven't been cleaned up/used in recent years. Spice should be fine. The 2023 Spice Lake fire didn't appear to make it back to the portage or campsite or even any of Spice Lake shore itself.

I would love it as well if you don't mind sharing.

Appreciate it. I'll look for it in my email.

For those interested -the campsite review on Kelsey was semi-comical. Made me laugh anyways.

Barter, just off a popular path but dead end with one camp site.

I've been to Conchu, Coxey, Fisher, Amber, Fishdance, and Otto. All seem to be less-traveled for sure, except for Fishdance but I don't think the campsites past the pictographs see too many people. Amber has a gem of a site!

Crystal is nice. Very quiet.

I suppose East Pipe and Pipe would qualify

I loved Emerald, south of Hustler. (The Sioux Hustler trail can also access it so not sure it’s a true dead end, but it was for paddling.)

I'd love to have this spreadsheet as well. I've always avoided dead ends just because I don't want to back track if the one or two campsites are all full. That said, I've always wanted to try them because I know it would be quiet.

The single campsite 'dead end' lakes can be great. Always good to have a backup plan when going in, in case the site is taken. Just the way it is... Went in to Fisher last June, clearing one small down tree on the portage, and found campsite with the tent pad covered with white pine cones. Spent an extra night there. There are some gems off the main path.

iCallitMaize: "...all the dead people md lakes."

Ok, I just have to ask... is this an abbreviation for something, a typo or am I just not understanding?

Adding Pierz to the list. The canoe site on Gogebic is also a gem.

Yes...just typo. Fixed it.

Sending emails today. Been out of pocket.

Bog Lake, I think it the best definition for a dead end lake in the BWCAW.

" Crystal is nice. Very quiet."

I spent 4 nights on Crystal - first trip with my 2 girls. Moose in camp every night. Beautiful little lake... I twisted my ankle real bad the day before exiting. Great memories!

We camped at Flame just off of Burnt for 1 night about 10 years ago. It was a nice site and I would stay there again. We did have 2 other groups make the portage over and come around the corner looking for the same site while we were there.
