Makes sense, Bobber. Most purchases now are probably nostalgic in many regards as the advances in fabrics are pretty amazing. We do use the vestibule on the front of the tent which takes care of the short coverage. Only once was the shorter coverage on the back side an issue and a minor one at that.

I was thinking short on the sides with potential of things getting wet inside the tent. Seems like the vestibule is an add-on item?

Got it. Yes, the vestibule is an add-on item. As for the fly being short on the sides, that wasn't ever really a problem for us. It has been a really good tent for a long time. My biggest complaint is the weight, really.

There’s definitely a nostalgia aspect to our purchase. We both spent a lot of time in Timberlines back in the 1980s and the. Later, we had the Alpine Meadows which was just a slight modification of the Timberline.
Before you get too worried about the fly on this tent it was a standard in the BW. Cliff Jacobsen’s books used to show the Timberline. And we’ve been through lots of rain, with no problems, in the Alpine Meadows. It has the same fly and we never had the vestibule.
Still, this wouldn’t be my purchase for the BW these days. Our Tarptent Hogback is about half the weight. It’s not quite as big as the Timberline 4 but the roof isn’t as peaked and so probably has more space with a decently high roof height.

Setting up the vestibule in this photo. This is our latest TL4, a recent model with just the one door. Even though it's also a new vestibule, purchased at the same time, you can see that the colors don't match well.
As far as the short sides on the fly, I have taken to adding a bit of cordage to the 4 pull-outs and tying off to available trees/shrubs/logs to pull the fly out a bit more horizontally. That keeps it from touching the tent wall and deposits the rain runoff away from the tent floor.
Hmm... gotta pull that outie over a bit...

Deal gone now :(
But I think I recall Cliff J saying it's easy enough to sew on an extra 6" of nylon to the symmetrical fly...
I had a TL4 with two doors and loved it. Two vesties added and we slept FIVE cross wise in there with gear in the vestibules. Whenever I think of getting another (lost mine in divorce) I am kinda attracted to the newer models with slightly different poles that open up the V shaped top. But I've never seen one in real life or been in one.
For the $160 price, it wouldn't matter. Pretty rock solid tent.
