The Minnesota DNR is updating fishery management plans for more than 100 lakes, including several in the BWCAW. A list of lakes involved is at the link below. It can be organized by lake name or county name:

“ February is the month to connect with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fisheries offices across Minnesota about 112 lakes in 34 counties that will have their fisheries lake management plans updated in 2024.

“Comments from people interested in the health and quality of Minnesota’s fisheries are a critical part of the DNR’s fisheries lake management planning process. These plans establish fisheries management goals and objectives for each lake and guide the work fisheries biologists do each year.

“People who want to discuss any of the individual fisheries listed below must call or email the area fisheries office listed for each lake during February.

“The DNR wants input from anyone interested in these fisheries. Comments about preferred experiences, observations or general concerns about the fishery – rather than suggestions on how DNR might accomplish a specific goal or objective – are the most helpful kinds of input.”

Along the same line as gravelroad input, but a little different important. Thanks.

Those who care about Lake trout or lake Stream trout in the BWCA will comment.

For too long the season winter opens earlier in the BWCA, thus many lakes just inside the BWCA get heavily overfished those two weeks. Many of these people who fished then move on to lakes outside the BWCA when it opens. Those who care for the BWCA fisheries are left with lower abundance and quality.

The rule change supported by Mn DNR Management would have all seasons inside and outside the BWCA open on the same date in the winter. A much-needed law change which I have pushed for 30 years,

Take the survey and vote for the same winter opening date everywhere. BWCA and outside vote for same opening day in winter-please
