Does anyone know where the Ely based USFS planes spend the winter?

I'm just curious, that's all.

From the USFS:
DYK the Superior National Forest Seaplane Base on Shagawa Lake in Ely is a year-round operation. Although most know of the seaplane operations in the summer, pilots and crew also operate aircraft on the frozen lake through the winter months. During which time, the pilots and crew of the base install and maintain an 'FAA Registered Ski Runway' - pretty cool ??
The runway dimensions are 60’ wide by 1600’ long and extend north from the base. The runway is lined by balsam tops to mark the edges of the active runway. Keeping the runway clean and clear for take-off and landing is paramount - fishing and spearing holes as seen in these pictures are troublesome.
On-site signage is coming to ensure we can best inform any public in the area. In the meantime, help us by sharing this post with your fishing friends to help us keep the area flat and safe for our pilots to use. We love our pilots and the aircraft and want to keep them safe! Thank you for your cooperation!

Thanks... for some reason I never thought to look it up. I'm stupid that way.

Very informative.
