Not a BW related question but...

I am hiking up Mt. Washington and camping about half way this weekend and am debating if I should carry the weight on my back or on a sled. The hike to our camp site is 2.5 miles in and a vertical rise of 2000ft. We will be making trips from there. Is there any benefit to pulling the weight in a sled on a consistent 15% grade? The pack will be about 45lbs.

Thanks

Wow, where to start....sometimes what's a class 2 in the summer is a class 3 in the winter. Here are some random thoughts on this.

Have you hiked the trail in the winter before?

Is there any class 3 in the summer? It will be class 4 in the winter and that's no fun with a sled. Don't try class 4 with the sled attached to you. Tie the sled to a separate line and pull it up when you get there.

Do you use ropes or pull bars to pull your sled?

If you use pull bars and not ropes to pull your sled, and if you want to take more gear and if there is no class 3 or 4 work, take the sled. The return trip will be a hoot, ride down on your gear when you can, use your crampons for brakes.

Have fun
Jeff
