Too many years ago to remember.....can anyone ID the campsite and the resultant portage out? The portage is very unique to the the length of the platforms, and if I recall correctly, there were only two portages of short length and paddling (couple hours) to get to the parking/pickup area.

The spouse really wants to go back to this area, probably because the site seemed kind of isolated.

Could it be Brant Lake and one of the portages between Brant and Round Lake?

Yep, I'd say Brant Lake.

Above two posters are indeed correct, it is Brandt going to Round Lake.

Thanks!

I think the portage photos are of West Round to Round Lakes. I was there around 8-9 years ago when it was completely flooded, and I remember well all those boardwalks floating in 2 feet of water! Worst "portage" I ever did at that time. I think that beavers may have built a dam, which flooded the portage.

Was just through that portage....and it has been rebuilt and moved slightly uphill so that it's no longer down in that floodplain.

I agree it looks like one of the portages to get to Brant L. and definitely looks like the campsite on the east side of Brant.

As a former ranger, I built that campsite. Anyone knows Sue at Trail Center,
she was my partner will confirm my story, 1983 or so. Takes alot to built a new campsite, that place was hard to put in the firegrate and find a place to dig
a latrine.

Well, thanks for doing that! It is a great site, IMO, being isolated in that little corner. Saw (heard it first) a moose in that corner. Been to the BWCA 5 times, and that was the only time.

Here are pics from that area, and is the one I show people when they ask about my vacation, as most if not all have never heard of the BWCA.
