A local man is selling two canoes and I'm wondering if his asking price price is fair or high.

1970 Grumman $600.

1983 alumacraft $500

River and lake use, no welds or holes,some scratches.

In the Twin Cities area a regular Grumman standard goes quickly at $400.
The Alumacrafts usually around $300.

Agree. I wouldn't pay that price. I almost had one bought for 80 dollars a while ago. If you notice ones that are never used and just sit in the back yard, approach and make an offer. Sometimes they just want them out of the back yard.

Agree with previous posts especially concerning the Grumman. Over the past 3 years I have purchased 4 Grumman canoes for the local nature center in SE Wisconsin where I am a long time volunteer. They like aluminum canoes for their rental fleet due to their durability and ability to be stored outside all year. During the early part of the pandemic prices for aluminum canoes, especially Grummans rose. Now I find nice Grummans for about $400.00 or maybe slightly more for really nice ones.

The advice to approach owners of aluminum canoes that seem to be unused is a good one. Many aluminum canoes are stored outside.

Those prices are not bad, but yes you could do better, if you work at it.

If I wanted a second 17' Grumman, I would not hesitate to pay $400+ for one in very good condition. A new one costs $2,200. I will never part with mine.

the alumacraft price depends on what model it is. if its the light weight model (QT 17 CL Quetico), its worth double the price of the heavier models.

I paid $625 for 1 1994 Alumacraft Quetico, 1 1996 Alumacraft Voyageur (with a hole through the bottom I paid to fix), and 4 paddles in March 2023 to a private party seller. I think I got a good deal.

I bought my father-in-laws 1962 Grumman for $300 - but then again that was probably a family price.

Depending on condition, I would say the prices you show are fair at best to slightly high at worst. Perhaps make a 2 for 1 offer?
