Starting on August 6th I'm planning to begin a loop from Little Gabbro to Turtle,Clearwater,Lake two, Kawishiwi River back to Little Gabbro. I'm sure the loop has a name I'm unaware of. Here's the questions. Are the campsites in the burn area all functional? Am I allowed to pass through the PMA without a special permit? That's huge game changer if I can't. It's a leisurely solo paddle with photography, fishing, a book and scotch on the docket. Let me know if I'm missing something. Thank you.

A person or party can definitely enter or pass through a PMA without an additional permit but camping within PMAs requires a permit different to the entry permit for the BWCA. That permit is for the specific PMA, a section of that PMA (they are all subdivided into sections), and the specific night(s) on which the group will be camping. So far as I am aware, one group is permitted to camp in any one section of any PMA on any given night.

I'd try for the 2nd site up Clearwater Lake after the portage in from Turtle.

Thank you for the input. Some of these portages look a tad gnarly. I like self punishment obviously. Cheers!

Thanks for posting the video link. I think I'll be questioning my sanity by the time I finally make it to Lake Two. That's provided I'm not lost in the woods forever. It'll be really green and overgrown by then.
And I wonder why no one will venture in with me without a lot of arm twisting.
