It struck me that buying things in the for sale section has got people nervous these days. I got to thinking that perhaps Adam could run a list of known good sellers at the top of the section.

I'd be willing to write the code. I would think a simple input box with a sellers name / enter, boom in the database that can be called to display. It would obviously take the help of people that have purchased stuff from a certain user.

I think it may help on scams and such. Maybe??

Or maybe another icon under their name once they get 3 or so good reviews from selling.

I have been here for a long time. Not once have I read that someone was scammed here. Example would be, don’t buy anything from this member because he scammed me and took my money. Or I sent him the money and never got the product . Might have happened, but it would be unusual in my experience. We are a pretty good group here. Just my thoughts.

I would agree with SV. I have bought and sold on this site almost since I joined over 10 years ago. Never had any problems. I do check sellers for length of membership and activity on the site and would likely avoid sellers who just joined.

Agree. I even sent a portage yoke to a member here (someone I didn't know) and I didn't even have him send money up front. We both agreed on that sort of transaction so that's what I did. All worked out just fine. Figured that if he needed it that badly, he'd at least think of me every time he put it on his canoe.

Plus, if I didn't get paid, he'd suffer the wrath of a post on the board. LOL

Honesty runs rampant in the canoeing community, but I suppose there could be a couple rotten eggs out there.

I've lent and borrowed items here. All returned. No issues. I would be hesitant to do that with a new name I didn't recognize.

I think issue with fraud is with scammers contacting members directly posing as members. Not with fake sales on the site.

I.e. I post on a buy thread for a Northwind 17 canoe, but didn’t get it…scammers contact me privately posting as a member to sell or a member then referring me to a non-member to sell. Get the money then ghost…

Would your proposal stop that process? I feel like everyone knows now to double check…if the seller has minimal posts I think I’ve always been jumpy. You can meet in person to counter act that…otherwise no matter what you are always taking chances.

Maybe your proposal would make people feel more comfortable? I am not against it…just thinking out loud.

I've bought and sold a couple of items here with members w/o any issues. I sold a roof rack for $100. The buyer sent me the money the day we made the deal. Same with a tarp I bought. Sent the money, the guy sent the tarp. As noted, the scams seem to be people pretending to be members and offering an item for sale via a message.

I have bought, sold, borrowed and lent gear on this site since I joined over 10 years ago. I have never had an issue with any transaction, and I am far from being nervous when I engage in said transactions.

I thought that there were more cases of being ripped off. Obviously I trust nearly everyone in this community, but the new accounts selling stuff gives me pause.

I still think it would be useful. Perhaps list bad sellers instead of good ones. Now that I think about it, that would be a much shorter and easier to search and maintain list.
