Those of you who carry canoes on a car, with the straps running through the doors - how do you keep the water from running down the straps and dripping on the inside of the car when driving in the rain?

I've been fortunate enough to have never had to drive for an extended time in heavy rain with a canoe on top, but even when driving in light rain I'll get a steady drip on the inside after a while. I worry it could be a significant problem if I have to drive in a downpour.

I drive 1500 miles one way with straps running through my cab. Rarely a big issue.
Make sure your straps are flush with the framing and rubber on your doors.

Treating the strap with a hydrophobic coating will help. The drips are usually caused by the strap wicking water through the door seal, not actually creating an airgap for droplet transfer.

I had to travel that way during a prolonged downpour. We lightly wrapped the inside portion of the straps with small towels so drips wouldn't fall on the car seats.

Thanks all. I think just carrying a few old socks to tie around the straps would go a long way toward soaking up the drips in the event of a rainstorm.

I got some loops on Amazon that go under the weatherstripping on my truck door and wrap around the door frame. That way I don't have straps running thru the truck and keeps it a little quieter in the cab. I loop the extra strap around and tuck it into the weatherstripping too.
