Wonderful footage. I wish that the image wasn't cropped though. Since it was shot on film it would actually have a 4:3 ratio so we are likely missing a bunch of frame real estate on the top and bottom. Still great to see!

Very fun to watch…
The drama of the narrator was cheesy, but that was what they did back then. I think everything was like that in the 70’s. Of course some of the comments aren’t things we would accept now a days but you have to judge people for the time period not by today’s standards. The cheesy “70’s I am man” song to end it made me laugh. Jerome Alden did numerous documentaries and wrote broadway plays…funny how we laugh and judge people from the past that were considered great during their time…the same will happen to us :)
The husband and wife tipping “Almost got a divorce” LOL
I really enjoyed the interviews and the theme of their thoughts on preserving the area, getting away from stressful life, getting back to the basics and how they enjoyed the experience is timeless.
Anyone else notice how when they canoed and portaged they barely had any gear? Must of had a support team hauling gear? At the end they showed them unloading a TON of gear.

Thanks for the link, Argo! Fun to watch, but in most paddling footage we wondered where all their gear was stashed. We used Canadian Waters as our outfitter in the late '70s and early '80s--nice folks.

"I think everything was like that in the 70’s."
The 70s gave us The Godfather, The Godfather II, Alien, All in the Family, Taxi, Taxi Driver, Chinatown, Richard Pryor, Columbo, Pink Floyd, SNL, Queen, The Doobie Brothers, and on and on and on. In short, there was gold and fool's gold.

I will paddle eternal, Kevlar and carbon.

I also wondered where all of the gear was!

”Man has had nothing to do with it.” LOL
I refer the uninformed to this excellent thread below for the truth of the matter. I first realized it after spending a decade or so among the old growth forests of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska and then crossing over the height of land on the Gunflint Trail during a visit home. No, it ain’t ”untrammeled ” and it hasn’t been that for a very long time:

Argo: "OneMatch: "You had me at "supermodels"."
I confess YouTube hooked me with that lede too. I would hasten to add that, although I don't think the ladies were actual supermodels, they'd have been welcome in my canoe."
We single walk portages. The models, while nice looking, only appeared to be able to carry a paddle or two and a PFD. If they can't carry their share of the gear, I don't want them in my canoe!
