Went in on 15th, water was 2-3 ft deeper than usual (except last year). Coming out today was down to 1-2 ft deeper. Didn’t make it past Alpine/ Jasper portage (where we capsized last year), it was raging again. We pulled up on the bank about 100 yards from it and walked up the crest to mid portage, prob wasn't legal, I dunno. . Water was swirling over two places about 4 inches deep, but at the Jasper end it was deep and I felt we couldn’t out paddle the heavy force of going over the falls. So we went back to stay on alpine.
Bitting bugs are just hatching. Fishing was not great, none feeding on bugs floating. Caught and released several pike, couple of trout. None cringe or brag worthy. Couple fellas had capsized at the narrows just off the 54 POE but they were ok. Be safe!

Jj, glad to hear you got out on a trip! You just missed me on my trip as I was just in that area on the 14! I hadn't been those lakes yet and certainly did not expect that fast moving current blocking off the portage. We ended up avoiding any current by bushwhacking from further down- sounds similar to where you stopped to check out the portage. I feel fortunate to be in my current young and physical shape since that hike/bushwhack while carrying gear was no easy task.

I didn't get to do any fishing on my trip but glad to hear you were able still catch a few trout. Definitely agree to wish everyone a safe trip! The water is still pretty cold..

My daughter and I will be putting in on Seagull Lake and heading through to S.A.K. in about 3 weeks. So you are saying that the water levels dropped approximately 1' in 1 week? When you refer to the 54 POE, I assume that you are talking about the entry near Trail's End campground and not the one off of Seagull Lake Access Road south of Seagull Outfitters? We have already secured mesh head nets if the mosquitos or black flies intend to pose any problems for us. Thanks for the reconnaissance.
