I stayed on Ensign a few years ago. We met in Ely and it was 70 degrees. By the time we set up our campsite it was in the 30's. We paid the outfitter $20 to give us the 6 mile ride up on the flat bottom boat. The young man even helped carry our gear across the portage. A sucker run was just beginning. Pretty cool! I remember thinking I should have paid another $20 to get them to pick me up. We had good luck with walleyes, mostly eaters. But I did manage a 25" in a complete downpour. Priceless. My experience with traffic was small motorboats. My cousin got swamped by a boat wave on the way in and had to go back and dry out (I assume he didn't turn into the waves). When we all came out, this lady boat driver and her guests thought it quite funny to do 360's right around us and laughed through the whole thing. I can't do justice to explain my emotions that moment.
