Hey everyone, long-time reader, first time poster here. Getting ready to head up with the guys for our annual BWCA trip next week and this will be our first year on the Gabbro's/Bald Eagle chain. Normally we target Wood/Hula but wanted to switch it up this year to try to focus on more walleyes and larger pike. The plan is to target the channel between Gab and B.E. for fishing and camping so I was wondering if anyone had any tips for fishing this area or campsites that have been good (or bad). Have also seen a lot of posts about the nasty portage to Turtle and was wondering if anyone can confirm if it's worth it for a chance at a big Northern.
We did the small loop Gun lake, Pietro, Clearwater, Turtle, Bald Eagle and back to Gabbro a few years ago. Portage to Turtle to Bald Eagle was difficult but nothing terrible. Unfortunately I cannot comment on the pike fishing on turtle. Leaving Clearwater that morning we were racing thunderstorms to get a campsite on Gabbro so I didn't take the time to fish as we passed through.
