Who has a solo canoe and what solo do you have?

What do you like about it?

Is there anything you wish was different about it?

Do you use it for extended trips in the BWCAW?

I am curious about solo canoes and would love your feedback.

I have a solo plus by wenonah in royalex. It's my first canoe so I may be biased.
Pros.
Relatively efficient. No rocker so she can cruise.
Royalex takes a beating but she's got skid plates now.
Can be used by more than one person
Stable (both primary and secondary)with one person

Cons.
Not a manuverable boat for technical waters
Easily overloaded with two people
Not comfy to portage

(I have had many experiences in the boat that were negative but they mostly occured while tandeming the boat)

(I have also paddled a Bell Fusion that is very similar, only it was leaning more tandem and the solo plus is leaning more solo)

I also own an Advantage by wenonah.
Pros.
I love this boat.
Trimed out well and she'll fly
Stable once you get your "sea legs" (good secondary, mediocre primary)
Handles gear for extended trips without loosing much efficiency

Cons.
Made for tracking so manuverability is sacrificed
She is now badly damaged and currently out of commision.... being repaired slowly by me. If she doesn't come through the "operation" I will have another.

(I did a 7 day trip in the B-dub soloing while traveling with two MN IIs and an Itasca. I could keep up once I figured out my trimming issue but in a head wind their momentum was enough to push ahead of me... I never felt "blown away" the entire trip and on short sprints I would smoke them)

My suggestion... Do it... Get a solo boat.. you'll love it!

Wenonah Encounter, 17 ft. Great stability, high volume, good for large paddlers with a pile of gear. Down side? Tempts one to take on big water with big waves due to its stability. Mine is in the kevelar layup. I have used this boat for two to three trips a year for the past twelve years. Would not give it up. Solo paddling has really spoiled me. The freedom to go where you want at the pace you want is pure luxury.
