I have an older map where someone has circled an "ice cave" on the east side of Alice Lake, kind of back in a little cove. does anyone know more about what this is, and if it is worth going out of the way to see. Any reply is greatly apprecited.

I have heard it is somewhere down in the bottom of the east arm of Alice Lake:

Where does your map have it marked?

in the general area of the circle. there is no definite "x" marks the spot on my map. judging from the topography of the area, it doesn't seem typical of other areas in missouri and arkansas that have caves i've visited. check out devils backbone wilderness in the mark twain national forest (missouri) for soom cool caves

Kevin,

Thanks for posting the map!

I don't think I could travel through that lake now and not give finding it a crack. Alice is a big lake though, and it looks like the little branch off the arm is nearly a 1/4 mile long which leaves some ground to be covered to find it.

I have not been on Alice but I plan on checking that out this summer! I did find a cave on Beaver last summer, so I think there is a possibility! Can't wait to find out! Let me know if you find it before I do!!!

Keep this thread going, I am very interested in trying to find this. I had heard something about it a while ago, but didn't have a site like this to get more info to and from others. If anyone finds any other maps or more info, I would love to have it. I will keep an eye out too.

I will be going into that area in July and will try to take a day trip to it. It may be too late, and you already took your trip. But I will post any interesting info and or pics if I find it.

I am not going there until late August, so please post anything you find :)

I kinda just wanted to refresh this because i will be there in four weeks and I still don't have any specifics on the location of the cave. If anyone has any more info on this, please email me or post.

I'm going to look for the cave on June 6th, if i can find it, i will post a better map location and possibly GPS waypoint coords.

Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated.

So I was at Alice lake last week and I didn't look for the Ice Cave. I did speak to some Old-Timers and they told me that in some areas, the snow collects and doesn't melt until summer time, and that is probably what the ice cave is. It seems plausible to me, so I guess that unless someone can find out more, I'll settle for that.

Well, I'm still going to look. I found one on that was rumored to be on beaver so I still am hopeful :)

I have been on Alice twice and it is a large lake and we are planning a trip to Insula for June '06 and I will take a look. Hope I can find it! If I do or don't I will post some pictures.
