UPDATE We received new information about the Russell Lake. Please use this update Aug 23 closure map and here is the new list of closures:
The eastern portion of Upper Sturgeon Lake, the southern portion of Olifaunt Lake, all of Kendall Lake, all of Gahn Lake The northern portion of Chatterton lake and the northern portion of Russell Lake, all of Alice Lake, all of Buckingham Lake are closed to camping. The Russell Rapids Portage, Bonhomme Portage and Sauvage Portage are closed to travel. In addition, check wind forecasts and avoid camping downwind from the fire to avoid smoke. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is continuing to monitor this fire.
Thank you, and sorry for the quick update to the information we sent you this morning.
For those interested (not to advertise) I am an outfitter and guide.
I heard that Rawn and Rawn Narrows was also closed from the outfitter. Pray for rain, and buckets of it.
If we aren't actively working to protect our planet, we are acquiescing to those who run their life as if their personal WANTS are the only things that matter.

Thank you for this update. Hubby just left Russell yesterday a.m., left McDougal this a.m. and made it to Kawnipi today. He reports that at noon today the fire flared and formed a huge anvil that covered 1/2 the sky.
"A lake is the landscape's most beautiful and expressive feature. It is earth's eye; looking into which the beholder measures the depth of his own nature." ~ Henry David Thoreau
