Where and when are you planning your winter trip this season?

I'm thinking of a trip out of Ely. Still looking at maps. Probably in January. Maybe a second one in March.

I'll be going in late Dec. or early Jan. I'll be going to Gordon,Wis. as I own 5 acres of land up there that is nothing but timber(no building's yet)and it would be a perfect place to introduce my 17yr old son to the joys of winter camping. After I feel confident that he can handle it....then we will go to the BWCA.

I am hoping to go up on Hegman lake this winter. I hiked in the area a couple weeks ago and during that trip I decided to take my winter trip up there. Someday I may bring my canoe to that area too. Haven't picked a date yet though. In past years I have went during the end of Feb, or early March.

I winter camped the Hegman Lake area last year. Hiked up and through Hegman past the "pictographs" and then the portage to Angleworm. It's a nice area. The trail from the parking lot to Hegman is well traveled and you have the option of going back to the parking lot at angleworm. I'll go back but I want a couple of more days.

Have fun

I also went in through Hegman last year. the pictographs are really cool to look at in the winter.

This year I will be going back, probably up into La Croix, since my next goal is to hike up to Warrior Hill.

I plan on heading to Ramshead Lake sometime in December. I've done this trip a couple times in the past and really enjoy it. Each time the wolves have howled all night and last year I actually saw a pack of 5 on the ice!

Can't get to the BW this winter, but like Timberwolf I have a place up north,in Northern Michigan. I do have a cabin there but I will do at least one weekend camping in the lean-to up on the hill.
