Agroup of us are going into the BWCAW for our 5th year in a row, this year we are going in at Hog Creek and going into Perent lake to stay, does anyone have any helpful info about these 2 areas, even photos. Thanx
Very good and easy trip with one portage. If I remember it takes 3-4 hours. Winding paddle with possible beaver dams often. Perhaps the DNR will dynamite them but beavers work fast and you may have to get out and pull canoe over the dam. Lots of campsites and plenty of fish. I am going over the MD holiday and really looking forward to going there again. Bring your black lead head jigs and minnows/leaches. Enjoy your trip.
We camped at Perent Lake several years ago and loved it. Traveling in silence along the creek on your way into the lake is a good way to find unexpecting moose. The lake is large, so plan on fishing closer to shore as the water was choppy further out.
Johnnywalleye is right about the beaver dams. They can be a nuisance. Especially with a low water level. However, it is a nice river to travel & easy paddling other than the beaver dams. We also had an otter that followed us 1/2 way down the river for awhile. he was obviously very curious. We camped on one of the islands in the middle of the lake. It was a nice site. Also saw my first moose on this trip right on the western lake shore. Enjoy your trip!
