I.M.O.
Fishing... Alpine

While drifting bounce jigs off bottom with leeches. Think narrows on the north and stream entrance at the south tward Jasper at dusk and dawn.

Another option if you have some deep water in front of camp, put a floating lindy rig (Or weight and floating jig head)out there in front of camp with a leech while you do your thing in camp. (SECURE YOUR ROD TO SOMETHING!!! I tie mine down to the canoe) Always keep an eye on the rod. (Just remember to keep the leech suspended off the bottom)

Crowds... your going at a good time of the year, they should be minimal.

Weather... could be snow or into the 80's, be prepaired! Spring is a goofy time in the north country as far as weather is concerned.

I agree-stay on Alpine. With its size and islands you will have better fishing and it will seem like you have more solitude even if others are on the lake. You can always take day trips to Jasper, Ogish, Red Rock, Saganaga etc. for some added lakes visited, scenery and fishing options. Make sure you see the portage and the small falls between Jasper and Alpine, nice photo op. Also if you have time go over to Agamok gorge between Mueller and Agamok south of Ogish-Really cool. Tricky to find. If you are on the portage you will see where the Kek trail crosses the portage a little over half way to Agamok. Take a left (east) on the Kek trail to the wood bridge over the gorge. In May with water levels possibly a little higher it should be fabulous.
I have always caught some good size norhterns in Eddy and Jenny, especially Eddy at the place where the stream from kek ponds comes in. Good luck and have fun.

I have found much luck for walleye in Alpine lake. If you go to the area of Alpine near Seagull, just as Alpine narrows into a river towards seagull, fish the alpine end of the river mouth with Leeches just off the bottom.

There is a great site up on a ledge right at the river opening to alpine lake as described above. Good Luck! Willy
