buz	01/16/2013 10:18AM the other way is thru the basswood river, which is really scenic. You can get a tow to back bay, washington island, or, my favorite way, up to goose narrows thru an outfitter like Packsack, located on Fall lake. However, this would need to be a round trip back the same way, unless you put a car at different take out.

Timewise, probably about the same, although I have always done the loop counterclockwise. I like to do the portaging part of the trip with emptier food packs and a week's tripping experience for the other trippers.
