Hi I am considering the purchase of a solo canoe. My objective is strictly fishing small lakes and ponds. I also have been looking at kayaks as well but I am not sure which to purchase canoe or kayak. I own 2 tandem canoes and paddled many Q trips so I have paddling experience. I have soloed my SR17 on calm mornings but I would imagine a boat designed to be paddled solo would be better. I am leaning towards the purchase of a Hobie Outback kayak but would appreciate any advice on a lightweight solo canoe. The Outback is heavy and that may be a deal breaker.

So the questions are, what canoe would be a good choice as a solo fishing canoe? Could I expect the same seaworthiness as my SR17? How difficult is it to fish out of if there is a good breeze?

Sorry if the questions are too general but I never have been in a solo canoe and know nothing about them.

THanks ~JOE~

I use a Bell Rock Star for all of my solo stuff. It's a good fishing platform since it has good room and stability. Since they don't make them anymore a good choice would be a Wenonah Wilderness which is very similar. I've fished on Brule with the Bell and a rock anchor without issues. I think I'd look for something in the 15-16 ft range with a 29 to 30 inch width. Just a few thoughts....
