last year I found a pizza sauce in small plastic packets. I have looked everywhere and can not find it.
has anyone brought in a squeeze bottle of pizza sauce and how long will it keep once opened. The squeeze bottles I found are like 12OZ and that is way to big for snacks and one or two people.
What type of sauce does every one else use?

Funny you should ask. My gf and I just got our aluminum pie iron last night and got a fire going to do some BWCA cooking. We went to the Wal-Mart to look for BW compatible food. In particular we wanted to make BW Pizza with the pie iron as someone suggested in another thread. I found the sauce in packets, but they were too large for us. So we found some concentrated tomato paste in a tube. Then I got a packet of spaghetti sauce mix. It was with the gravy mixes.
We got home and I squirted about 2 tbl. of paste into a bowl. Then added slightly less parkay squeeze butter. I mixed that up real good with a fork and tasted it. It was kind of bitter and buttery tasting. Not all that good. So I sprinkled about a tsp. of the spaghetti sauce mix into the mixture and mixed that up. It was the missing ingredient. Made the sauce taste pretty darn good. I figure one tube of paste and one packet should last us our whole 7 day trip coming up.
Anyways, here's the recipe to make about 1/4 c.:
2 tbls. tube tomato paste
2 tbls. squeeze butter (or less, adjust until you get a nice red color) You could also use olive oil, real butter, whatever fat you bring.
1 tsp. spaghetti sauce mix
The sauce mix is basically dehydrated cheese, spices, and coagulting agents. The packet says to boil and simmer and what not, but it's not necessary. Basically use it like a seasoning for your sauce.
Anyway, the pizzas were really good. The sauce was good in the bowl and even better in the cooked pizza.

I am also in on the don't worry about it. We use that squeeze stuff for a week trip, no problems. Bring some extra oregano and garlic powder to add last minute for better flavor. Mozz cheese ball, or cheese sticks, boboli, pepperoni, green peppers, sweet onions, man my mouth is watering, lol.

I have used the pizza sauce in a squeeze bottle and it works great. I have also concocted my own in the past, however in the interest of time I prefer the squeeze bottle.

Sauce packet out of hamburger helper spaghetti. Mix in some water to correct thickness, add some spices and you have pizza sauce.
