      bringing in butter?

I see a lot of people recommend bringing in the flavored rice or noodles as a side (or main dish if no fish are caught)
I read the label at the store and all the brands I saw said to add a half cup of butter to make it. Can one bring in butter without it spoiling, or can I substitute oil for butter?
Thanks.

We don't refridgerate our butter at home stays nice and soft. Would be careful though it could make quite a mess!

kanoes is right, real butter will last along time. We bring in squeeze Parkay, because of ease of use.

same as Cedarboy, squeeze Parkay, not as tasty as the real thing, just more convenient.

I have taken it, it can be a mess though if it is not in a good container.

I will be brining in some clarified butter on my trip. You just heat the butter and spoon off the milk solids, then strain through cheese cloth to remove the rest of the solids. It will keep for a long time. Put in a Nalgeen bottle to prevent spilling.

1/2 cup of oil in some noodles would make for an interesting side dish

Personally, I prefer the taste of extra virgin olive oil. It is available in plastic containers and requires no refrigeration.
This is strictly a matter of personal taste.

I take a 1/2 stick of butter in a small rubbermaid container. No problems with taste or spoiling.

I take butter and have never had a problem with it spoiling, it should be in a container with a tight fitting lid though, as mentioned above.

Most of the rice side dishes that we use say the butter/margarine is optional, we go without, tastes fine.

Another vote for the squeeze butter. Country Crock was my favorite but it's been hard to find recently.

I take butter and store it in a squeeze tube.

Butthead, I take it you've never had a tube blow-out. :) Those are probably good now, but back in the "olden-days" they were nortorious for making a mess in your pack.

I'm a squeeze margarine guy, though I generally only bring it for group trips. Otherwise I go without or add a bit of oil if needed.

Squeeze butter for us. I'm always looking for improvements, though.

ron1 I don't add margarine or oil to the Knorr pasta or rice dishes even at home when I make them. IMO they taste the same without so you could save the hassle of bringing the butter with if you wanted to.

We always take way too much butter and use it all.

Nope, but that may have something to do with the coldfronts and rainclouds that follow me around!
