Is dog sledding allowed in Quetico? Just curious.

I'm pretty sure it is. Call the Atikokan ranger station to be sure, then post their response here. (807) 597-2735

I guess this was being moved when I attempted to answer the first time. But I’m certain it is, otherwise why would some outfitters advertise Quetico and trans-Quetico dogsled trips?

Yes, I went several years ago with a friend of mine who has some dogs. We went from Fall Lake and ran the dogs over Four Mile portage into Basswood (Hoist Bay). We then crossed the border and ice fished in North Bay and in Nest Lake.

You still need your RABC, Outdoorsman's card, and fishing license (if you're going to do some fishing) on you, although honestly I find it hard to believe any ranger would be there in winter time, at least in that part of Quetico.

Rangers patrol with planes on skis in the winter. If you really want to ensure that they check you, ride a snowmobile to your trout hot spot.

Your dogs have to have certain shots etc. before going across the border and I think you need those papers on you.

Years ago I went up to Louisa Falls on Agnes Lake via dogsled. I'm pretty sure the same fee and permit requirements apply year-round.
