I'm planning to get a tow for our Quetico trip this summer.(either to Prairie portage, or Lac LaCroix) My group doesn't need any gear...we are completely outfitted including canoes. It seems like many outfitters require you to rent canoes in order to get a tow.
Any advice for a fully outfitted group?

I've used La Tourells for a tow to PP and had all my gear. I think many outfitters will tow even if you don't rent from them. We did use the bunkhouse over night before the tow however.

I used La Tourrells for just a tow also. I did buy some gear from their store too.
The one time I didn't like an outfitter's service was with a company that is no longer in business (has a new name). The owner said he could mark our maps for us and asked to see them. He proceeded to mark them then charged us $20. I would have liked to know about the charge upfront is all.

We've used Gateway out of Crane Lake and Williams and Hall on Moose Lake for tows. We were totally self-outfitted and neither outfitter required any equipment rentals.

I've used Williams & Hall for years - starting with complete outfitting and moving to only needing a tow.

Depending on where you want to go, Packsack outfitters does a differnt tow into basswood. They go out of fall lake, using tow boats with wheels that drop down for the portages. Very cool, and they can get you to the end of the motor zone on basswood, in little more than an hour. You can avoid Prairie Portage that way if you have all your permits.

Journeyman, I wonder if that's one of those twin girls at LaTourells. In 2000 I had one take me to Prairie Portage then got picked up a week later there by the twin sister. Freaky. :)
I remember a black lab in the boat too.

Tom.
Yes, that's Mindy in the picture, twin sister Missy was pregnant at that time, 07. Both nice girls, it's funny I had them mixed up before I even met them because they sound exactly alike on the phone too.

Once used La Tourells for a tow and a bunk. Funny thing is Bob would not let us park our vehicle anywhere on the resort and would not hold our keys. Had to park at a public area and hide our keys.

I parked in LaTourell's lot in 2000 and all I got was a tow. I think I remember him charging me $5 to stay there for the week. They have a big lot.
