I know that several of the members here have done the Loop from Loon to Shell entering at LIS #14. My question is this: Has there always been that many logs across the portage trails along this route? There was not a single portage that did not have at least one or two logs laying across the the portage trail. I am not really complaining! I do not mind hard work, but being 6'5 and carrying an 18.5 foot long canoe, and about 90 lbs of gear (canoe, backpack, fannypack, and waterbottles) sometimes it is not too easy to get over some of these. And a particular one on the 173 from Little Loon to Slim, (with lots of broken limbs still on it) left a nasty little 6 inch scratch down the back of my thigh that nearly got infected! Is this normal for this area, or just has not been cleared?

We had no problems with the portages, it just seemed that every portage past Loon had several logs across them, some as many as 5 or 6... Most were not too hard to get over, just the one between Little Loon and Slim that had lots of limbs on it that was difficult.

Bruce-you ahould have gone last year. Our Portage clearing group in 2006 went From Moose River to LIS through the northern route and cleared the postages to Loon. It would have been clear sailing then. Obviously you can see how much damage can occur in a short period of time and why portage clearing groups are important.
They must not have had anyone volunteer for that route this year or the damamge occuyred after the PCT would have gone through.
