In late August, I will have a few days between work and starting school again. I want to take a solo trip, my family wants to take a trip, and we don't have time for both.
I'm thinking about having my family drop me off at 1 entry point then going over 1 and have us meet up somewhere in the middle of the loop on day 3, then pack out together. The other option is go in together, then break off and meet up somewhere or get picked up at the end.
It will be a 4 night, 5 day trip with the 5th day being able to get out relatively early due to a long drive back and heading back to school the following day. What are some possible options for a trip like this? Fishing is important but not essential to the trip. More just looking to get on my first mini-solo and spend some time with the family.
Of all the roads you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.
I’m not sure if I’m understanding you correctly but if you go in together under one permit, you will not be able to split from your family and take a campsite for yourself. If you enter under two permits, you may join your family if you don’t exceed the group maximum rules.
For a shorter length trip like that with a lot of loops and meet up spots try EPs 47 through 52 off the Gunflint Trail, or the Kawishiwi triangle EPs of 29,30,32 and 33.
Have done several group solo meets, it's fun and good mix of both camping styles. Did one to the island camp on Adams where partners left from Lake One, Sawbill and Kawishiwi. Everyone brought a part for sphagehti dinner. Within size limits and with separate EP permits.
