If your canoe is registered in MN, are you required to have your canoe registration on you, when you are in the BDWCA ? If checked by the ranger, will they ask for it ? If you don't have it, will they fine you. Entering BWCA Aug 12, but presently unable to locate registration for 2 canoes. They both are good through 2014 (Sticker says 2014). Can I get a copy of the registration from the DNR ?

I have been asked for my permit and fishing license in the BWCA. I have Wi registration stickers on my canoes but I have never been asked for the registration cards for them....so I haven't brought them along for several years.

I would think as long as you have a current sticker on the canoe that would be good enough for anyone. I never carry mine. The info on our state sticker is the same as on the card.

it needs to be registered somewhere, home state requirements do not apply in mn.

FS personnel has asked for a fishing license? My understanding was that FS did BW regs and MN DNR did Minnesota regs. That doesn't mean, I suppose, that FS Rangers can't also be deputized MN DNR at the same time?

Agree. It has to be registered either in your home state or in Minnesota.
Even if your state does not REQUIRE a license, they will often grant you one. Or, you can license your boat in Minnesota. It took me about an hour to do so for one of my boats a few years ago.

According to our local game warden you don't need to carry the registration card for a canoe nor kayak, but you do need them in your boat, personally I simply put them in my wallet which I carry in a waterproof container tied in the canoe. FRED

Bill, you are correct on not needing registration in Q. And if towed and not paddling to and from PP back to the Moose Lake landing, for example, no registration is required.

I just pulled out the old handbook of knowledge.
Mn gives you two hull stickers and also a registration sticker proving ownership. The hull decals displaying the registration year are required to be placed on the front section of the bow for non-motorized canoes. The registration sticker with the owners name is not required to be on board but needs to be available for inspection within a reasonable period of time if requested.
I stick my registration sticker to the inside of my canoe next to the stern seat. I don't think it's recommended to "stick" it to the hull, but I've never left it behind and it's always available.
