I possess a current RABC for Canadian Entry. I also have a chance for a last minute trip and would like to explore some Canadian waters but I don't need to do Quetico. Do I need anything else other than an RABC to camp on Canadian lands?

Can anyone offer insight on this area such as traffic and motorboats. I'm thinking of starting on Sag and going east to do a loop through Northern Lights Lake then back to Sag. Thanks.

Tom

I did that loop about 20 years ago and it was a good one. Hardly any motorboat traffic and very few cabins. Some impressive campsites, and some that had been trashed by motorboat fishermen. Recent logging activity had wiped out a portage, and we had to improvise.

I hope you can get some up-to-date info, because mine is not. I have fond memories of the trip.

you will also need crown land camping permits for each night you plan to camp in Canada (this is $10 per person per night). last I heard you must purchase those on-line somewhere on that same website you purchased your fishing license.

plan to see day motorboat fisherman traveling from sag to northern light and/or trafalger bay area.

I paid for the Crown Land camping fees at a log cabin Mountie station. Its been more than 10 years and I do not remember the exact location of the check-in station and back then there was no such thing as RABC permits so things have changed.

We really like Northern Light Lake. Had good fishing and saw no other boats. Our campsites were nice but some had quite a bit of camp furniture, log tables, nails in trees and such. Didn't really bother me. I really liked the trip.

The check in station was on an island only a few hours from our put in on Sag.

customs station on Sag has been closed for a number of years. Since the Canadians have gone electronic for fishing licenses there is no longer any U.S. businesses that can sell Canadian fishing licenses or crown land camping permits. there has been a rumor that Voyageur Canoe Outfitters at the end of the GT sells them... you might give them a call before heading up.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll do some homework and see what I can dig up. I thought I needed a permit for Crown Land.
