Hi everyone, first post here.

I just recently graduated from ohio university and me and a 2 buddies are planning our first trip up to the bwca. Due to major financial restrictions, we will not be using an outfitter and the only information Ive gathered so far has been from this wonderful site and a fellow ohio fisherman. We are planning to come up on Aug 15th and enter at the angleworm EP (20). We ll have 6 days total and I was wondering if this will be enough time to make it up to crooked lake and back. I'd also like this to be primarily a fishing trip as well. My plan (as far as i can tell from the map) is to go through gull and wagosh (and the smaller lakes around this) into friday bay. I was wondering if anyone has taken this route and how long it might take to get into friday bay. Is it feasible to get into the bay and at a campsite in 1 long day? Is there a better route into crooked lake? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone can tell me how the fishing is in this area that would be awesome.

Also, has anyone bushwacked into sinneeg lake? Might spend a day trying to get to some untouched fishing.

Thanks everyone, expect a trip report when I return

With that entry point, you will do more portaging than fishing. If Crooked Lake is your goal, Change your permit to Mudro. You can get to Crooked via Horse River or head through Boot, Fairy, Gun, etc to Friday bay. Either option will take a day if you're packed right for travel. It's a nice loop to go in through Horse R and out from Friday bay.

+1. Beautiful route, Boot, Fairy, Gun, ect. Pay attention to map and compass and/or gps on crooked. It's big water and can be a good test of your navigation skills. Welcome to the site, lots of great knowledge and people here!!!

aS others said--- Angleworm to Crooked is ALOT of portaging.
FYI--- Sinnegg is worth it.

FYI- Mudro (23 & 22) has no available permits for the 2 weeks between 8/8 and 8/22.

I have not been in Angleworm, but have considered it. I assume you are aware that the entry portage is 2 1/4 miles. Will you be double portaging?

I am aware of the double portage but like it was said earlier permits for mudro were taken up for the week. I missed the one permit I wanted by a few hours...bummer. But I think we may just stay around the lakes near angleworm (gun, horse, ect.) instead of making the trek up to crooked. Is the fishing that much better in crooked than these other mentioned lakes?

I can't tell you much about the fishing other than I caught a few northerns in Moosecamp in Sept '09 when I went in Mudro.

I just wanted you to know changing to Mudro wasn't an option since everybody kept mentioning it and to let you know you'd be walking almost 7 miles if you had to double portage.

I've heard Angleworm is a beautiful lake. I hope you enjoy it.

i did a solo trip like this several years ago. on the angleworm portage i cheated and took spring creek to the beartrap river and from there crooked lake and back through wagosh. it took five days (i think), so it should be no problem for a couple of college kids.
