Great site with lots of great info. Am wanting to begin planning a future first to the BW and have a few ?'s and hoped to call on some of your all's infinite wisdom of the area. Here it goes in no particular order:
1) When is the best time of year to visit?
2) What is the best entry point for someone with a novice canoe partner?
3) Is it best to canoe to one main base camp and set off on day adventures for the remainder of trip, do a loop style trip, do an out and back type? (If trying to plan a week type trip.)
4) Can you pull off such a trip without a guide service...sure would hope?
5) If interested in fishing and scenery what would be our best bets for a first time trip?

Anyway, I suppose the ?'s could be endless but this gives me a starting point to pick your brains a little. Thanks for providing such a resource!

#1 get beymers books (bwca west and east versions)
#2 for a 7 night trip...loop it.
#3 are you averse to snow flurries?
#4 tolerance for "bugs"?
#5 scenery or fishing or both?
#6 willing to tackle some tough portages, or want a walk in the park?

you will get many responses here. mines only the first.

You have questions, we have answers!
1) I like Sept. myself fewer people, no bugs and cool nights
2) I would suggest EP 16, EP 38, EP 25
3) I like the hybrid loop style. This involves traveling every other day.
4) You will not need a guide
5) As most on the board knows I like Iron lake off of EP 16. It has Curtain and Rebecca Falls not to mention great fishing.

* A book that I use is " Am paddlers guide to the Boundary Waters" by Micheal Duncanson???*
