Last July we paddled the Nina Moose River to Lake Alice and Lac la Croix. On our way in it was mostly navigable except for a few beaver dams. Five days later coming out we did more dragging or poling than paddling. Anyone know what the conditions are this year?

miketp,
Your message is a little confusing. I assume that you paddled the Moose River up thru Lake Agnes (not Alice) and on to LLC. The other thing is the beaver dams, I've been up and down the Moose and I don't remember any beaver dams. Last trip (mid June this year) there was an above average flow in the river. A call to one or two outfitters can get you an up-dated report.

over the years there have been beaver dams on the moose river. I was there in the late 80's and the flow was so low I had to walk at one point. I would have had to do more walking but there was a beaver dam not far from the opening in to Nina Moose Lake. I can remember as many as three dams one year.

Yup - Agnes. It's been a couple of years since I've been on that route, but I recall there being a couple of "attempts" at beaver dams on the river. They are always kept open due to the heavy traffic and usually don't amount to much more than a scrape over - in the spring anyway.

No problems this June. Water was at good levels, even the beaver dams were under water. Didn't rain all week we were in and on way out you could see the water levels dropped 4-5 inches. Point is: the levels change quickly so you won't know for sure until you get there. Overall though, I think water levels are better than last year.

We went up in May, and there were several dams on Moose and one submerged on Nina Moose. Fall of 2004 that same submerged dam on Nina Moose was hell to get back thru because of the fast current in the opening that was cut. If ther river level is down, you will most likely see that dam.
