The portage from Sawbill to Alton is 30 rods and probably the easiest portage you'll ever be on. The portage from Alton to Beth is 140 rods. Frankly I don't remember it well, so I assume it is another easy one. The portage from Beth to Grace is 285 rods. It's a little long, but pretty easy.

From the Sawbill entry point to Beth is 2 hours.

I agree with Bannock, about 2 hours. We liked the NW campsite.

I did this a couple weeks after the blowdown in '99 with a six-year old boy. Wasn't too bad. We camped on an island on Phoebe. We also camped at a nice site on the west end of Beth.

How was the fishing?

I am planning a trip to EP #38 in August and want to know what to expect? Also, can anyone recommend a camping spot on either Beth or Alton Lakes? Thanks
