I know it is not smart to tip your hand, but I am trying to find out how many people will be on Iron this week. We would like a camp site on three island. The campsite next to curtain is usually taken and the island down by Peterson Bay. I do not want those two. Any feedback on Traffic on the 4th of June?

The island down by peterson bay was one of the nicest campsites I've ever camped at

As you know, campsites are at a premium on Iron, ..especially in the peak of fishing season. My advice is to leave LLC as early in the morning as possible. Once you get to Iron Lake, you might want to stop at the first unoccupied campsite that's acceptable to you, ..set up one of your tents, and then keep looking for a site that you feel is an upgrade. If you find it, set up camp there, and then paddle back in an empty canoe right away and retrieve your tent. At least that's what I'm planning on doing in July anyway. (...and hope there's not much wind that day!!)

no way to know. best guess would be to check the online permit reservations for the nearby EPs for the previous few days. If there are a lot available, you may be good, if they are tapped out, good luck. :)

going in on saturday is often tough, a tue or wed. even thu. would give you better luck.

3 weeks earlier,,, we had the entire lake to ourselves for 4 days. Exactly 98 hours without seeing anybody outside our party!@!!

If your going to take a site then take it, pain in the ass for other people to see a tent only to find someone was "saving" the site. Just rude behavior, besides just an empty tent may disappear. Because on some lakes that is used to keep sites for the "next group". Empty tent don't float when wrapped in a rock.

i have seen more 'ghost campers' at the sight nearest curtain falls than actual campers. Seems like for many fishing openers in a row, a orange 'food pack' would be hung from a tree right out front but no one (or tents) to be seen for nearly a week....

It is a total crap shoot if a sight you want will be open....some of the busiest weekends in the BW i have found the 5 star sights open, just depends when the group in front of you leaves.

good luck and have fun....water was really high when we (white wolf and i) were there over opener...highest i think we have ever seen.
