I am planning a trip with a few buddies for the 3rd week of August. Trying to decide if we should head to Crooked, Insula or Lac La Croix...any thoughts? We are looking for good walleye fishing as a high priority.

Head for Crooked...at least you won't be overrun with other campers, like you will on Insula, and you will on the Boulder Bay-Tiger Bay area of LLC.

I won't argue with Kevlar cause I've not been to Crooked yet, but I really liked Insula (been there twice). Yeah, there are some crowds to deal with on the number lakes, but by the time you get to Insula (6 hour trip), you'll thin out the crowds. The walleye fishing on Insula is really great. Insula is essentially the Kawishiwi River widened and the Kawishiwi is loaded with walleyes. Insula is also a very beautiful, island riddled lake with great campsites.

Insula is great walleye fishing and Alice is right next door with outstanding walleye fishing as well.

I've been to all three areas several times. For what it's worth, I've had the best luck fishing walleyes in Crooked.

I've been to all three many times, and I would choose Crooked over the other two.

That settles it. Crooked's on my list. Maybe next year.

I've spend a lot of time on crooked, but always struggled with walleye, tons of smallies and northerns but not walleye, is my problem that I spend time in down in the bays?
