It turns out I have an unexpected long weekend coming up and the kids has such a good time a few weeks back on John lake so I'm thinking of going up again with them. The problem is there are few permits available. Does anyone have any reports about the campsites on Crocodile? My boys love to swim too so I'm also curious about any good swimming spots, etc on the lake. My boys are 3 and 5 so doing more than one portage to get to camp in is kind of out of the question (for this year anyway). Any feedback on the lake itself would be very much appreciated (other than the fact that there's lots of walley's).

i thought the campsites on the east end of the lake looked best for kids but i have yet to stay at one of them.

i have stayed at the 2nd campsite down from the east bearskin portage on the south side of the lake. and brought my kids.

swimming is an option there, the water is bog stained but good.

there is a rock that protrudes from the water that is nice to drop in from.
however, the fire ring is 100 or so yard from the water and it worried me to have them running around there without life jackets on because the water drops off fast and is pretty tough to walk up the slippery rock.(i was worried about them slipping in and not being able to stand up or get themselves out due to thier age) and just that happened in front of my reach so it wasn't a problem.
(i made them wear lifejackets whenever they journeyed toward shore and that might be a bit hot in august.

hope that helps you a bit.

im curious about john lake with kids if you have anything to share.

have fun

John lake was great. It's nice because you can just float in instead of having to portage. Fishing was decent, swimming was great, the kids we're both crying on the last day because they didn't want to leave!
