I have polio and cant walk to far so me and a couple friends are going in at Mudro and they are going to be my helpers its my life dream. So can I make Horse or should I do like Tin Can Mike or maybe Range? Just want to fish and camp for 3 to 4 days. Dont get me wrong I can still walk just not very long at a time. Need some expert advice. Thank You All.

The portages to Horse are all quite level EXCEPT the 80 rod from Mudro to Sandpit. That one has a big downhill and can be very slippery when wet. So you have a 10 rod and then essentially 3 quarter mile portages. You would really like Horse lake...could you stop for the first night on Tin Can if tired, and get to Horse the next day?

i think the portage to horse is 160 rods, thus half a mile...but its dead flat and rock free with a fairly long boardwalk on the horse end.

and yes, the mudro-sandpit portage is all what kevlar said it is.

youll love horse lake.

If you are not locked in to horse , I would try brule or sea gull , no motors , big beautiful lakes with very good fishing. I have base camped on both of these lakes and they are worth a couple of nights. you can drive to both of these lakes and still find plenty of widerness. good luck and I am glad you are getting a chance to go on your trip of a lifetime. tg.

kanoes is right, the portage from Sandpit to Tin Can Mike is a 160. I thought it was, but misread the map, and I never really trust my memory.
