I have taken bwca trips many times and am looking for a new route. I was hoping to take the vermillion river. I want to enter at trout lake and head north and wrap around to take out at little indian suoix north or in that direction. Is this route direction navigatible ( does the vermillion run north into crane lake?), or does it run out of crane lake? also can i get from loon lake to the little indian suoix north take out point, going south
Any pointers or sugestions would be much appreciated
(i have a 10 day itinerary)

it is certainly doable. lake vermillion however is a fairly busy lake with lots of cabins (mostly on the south shore)and boat traffic. The vermillion river is nice, mostly semi wilderness, though it does cross a paved highway and pass by a golf course. it does flow into crane lake, though it is mostly flat water with the occasional rapids, and could be paddled upstream. there are several spectacular gorges on the crane lake end. there are portages around the rapids, and several campsites--the minn. dnr website should have a map of the canoe route. crane lake is an entry into voyageurs and will have lots of boat traffic. boat traffic will follow you all the way to loon and into lacroix (though won't be as much as vermillion or crane). there isn't much blowdown in this area.

if i was doing a route in this area, i'd go east of trout to big moose (a very lightly travelled area), down the moose river to lacroix, up and over to little indian souix.
