We will be going in the first week of August. Can we make Boulder in two days and one overnight? Any suggestions on where to camp along the way? Any smaller good fishing lakes along this route or slightly off of this route?

I don't know about time & travel but we always had good walleye fishing on Sagus.

You might make it in two days, but I think it would be wiser to plan on three, especially if portage conditions past Fraiser are bad, or if you hit bad weather.
Thomas and Fraiser are good Laker lakes, and I'll 2nd Sagus.

TomP I'm doing the same but going in on the 7th. We're getting a tow from Smitty's across Snowbank to Disappointment portage to cut time. We're gonna go for Thomas on day one then should make Boulder on day two. Gonna hang in the area for at least 2 nights before going to Insula for the rest of the week and out on Lake One.

Smitty's is also helping us out with a shuttle to Lake One before the trip with our car. They have motel rooms at their resort for $70. Thought it would be nice to sleep in a bed after the 11 hour drive up.

Also heard things about Jug Lake for good size northerns.

Thanks for the info. I understand the island campsite on Boulder is pretty nice. I can't find any info on the other two sites. In case the island site is occupied, are the other two as nice? Have you ever been back there when all three sites have been occupied?

I hope to get the island site around Aug. 8th. Save me some firewood will ya? And a short note about any hot fishing spots you find too. :)

TomT. Sounds good, I'll leave you a note and a fishing report. We should be there around Aug 3,4 or 5th. Hope to stay 2-3 nights. Bump this string to the top in late July to remind me. Post a report here after your trip. It would be fun to compare fishing reports.

Does anyone have any info on fishing Boulder lake? We will be heading in the last week of June. I have stayed on Adam lake but never Boulder? Beautiful lake but not sure on the fishing.

TomP,

I am not telling you this to brag, but I have done Snowbank to Boulder in 1 day. So It can be done in 2 days of travel. If you really want to get to Boulder faster---the Kawishiway entry would be a much easier 2 days or one really long day depending on how you pack. None of the portages are difficult from Snowbank there are just a lot of them and it can bog you down.

If you do the route from Snowbank follow Beymer's Book description of how to get From Cap to Boulder there are three options I personally think he gives the best route.

Tim, Thanks for the tips. I have the 1994 version of Beymer's book and did not see the description you have mentioned. I might have to pick up a more current version.

I'd like to try the other EP you mentioned but we are locked into Snowbank for this year.

I've made it to Boulder in one day several times from the south, tried it from the east and fell one lake short(couldn't find the last portage), personally never tried boulder from snowbank, but my dad did it with a group in one day, one long, long day. So it is possible, you just have to pack right.
