We're going up to Oyster Lake Saturday through Nina Moose. Does anyone know what the water levels are like right now on the lower Oyster River? Wondering if we can paddle up or if we'd be better off taking the portage from Agnes. Thanks!

I've never known the water level there to be so low to make it impassable, even in late July/early August. Navigating that river is another thing, especially finding the most direct channel route when coming from the south, off of the Nina Moose River. Many take the Agnes portage route for that reason.

I can’t speak of the Oyster River but water levels are low in general. I went down the river last spring and there were lots of beaver damns. It was quite the challenge. I couldn’t have imagined going up, unless you’re really up for some adventure. I’d recommend taking the Agnes portage.

Thanks for the replies! Definitely sounds like we'll stick to the Agnes route on the way in.

My wife and I are headed that way next week. I called Canoe Country Outfitters to be sure we could still go inside to get our permit and a few supplies. When they inquired about our route they were quick to say that the Oyster River was very low and not passable in their opinion without considerable effort.

Have a great trip!!

I was on the Upper Oyster River last week. The water levels as a whole were low. So I opted for the portage to Agnes. The portage isn't bad. Nice little sandy beach at the end.

Wow. Certainly confirms reports of a bone dry start to the season.

Thanks for the replies everyone! We'll plan on taking the Agnes portage on the way out next week too.

I know this is too late but for anyone else looking for information: I just came down the Oyster River yesterday from Oyster lake. The water level was deep enough for us to paddle through all the way to the Nina Moose. There were several beaver dams that we needed to pull over. I can see how it would be more difficult going up stream finding the right channel, but if you're up for it it is definitely passable.
